These past two years in English class has taught me alot. I’m writing this blog post to show how I have improved from 7th to 8th grade with my writing skills. I chose Murder Mystery and The Costs of Education as my artifacts because I believe that they strongly show my improvement.
In 7th grade, I had to do an assignment called Murder Mystery. We had to investigate a crime scene (picture) and look for clues to determine whether it was a suicide or murder. In the end, based on the evidence, I ruled the case as a suicide. I did not do very well on this assignment. I didn’t include many details, transitions, or use correct grammer. Although this assignment proved me to be a critical and creative thinker because I had to use the small amount of evidence that I had to solve this problem. I made connections from the picture to known life facts.
This year, in 8th grade, I wrote an essay named The Costs of Education for my 1st semester performance task. I was given different sources and had to read and annotate. I had to write about the downsides of college. For example the financial costs. I beleive that I had a very strong introduction that grabbed your attention. The FLAGS learning outcome I demonstrated in this assignment was global and civic mimded because I learned what a major economical problem that is going on in our national community.
From 7th to 8th grade, I have improved as a writer. I have learned how to make connections and many other things. I’m still not the best at using transitions so I am going to focus on that for high school.
