The way I recognize a proportional relationships in a table is by finding a pattern on one side but not on the other. It has to be at a constant rate of growth meaning that it has to increase by the same amount. To recognize a true proportion in a graph you need to find a straight line that must cross the origin. You will also find a unit rate by finding the same ratio.
