The poem, “The Lesson of the Moth” by Don Marquis  is about a cockroach and a moth and the moth explains to the cockroach why dying with beauty and being happy for an instant is better than living a long boring life. The theme of the story is dark but beautiful because it talks about death and living a long boring life but by dying a beautiful death is better than being bored your entire life.

The first philosphy is the cockroaches and his is live long no matter what because cockroaches are a symbol of a long lifespan and their ability to be versatile, while the moths philosphy is easy come easy go because theyre nocturnal and they never see light so they crave something to see light. I think the poet believed the moths philosphy because at the end the cockroach says “i wish there was something i wanted as badly as he wanted to fry himself”, he wouldnt say that if he wanted to live a long boring life.

The moths view represents my view because whats the point of living if you’re not doing anything with your life.
